Bodegas in NYC now have their own delivery app

Deemed as essential by the state, bodegas in New York City are open during the coronavirus outbreak. For those craving a bacon, egg, and cheese from your local deli, but can’t leave your apartment, a new app is here to help. As first reported by Eater, My Bodega Online is looking to give New Yorkers another option when it comes to ordering take-out and groceries for delivery, while simultaneously supporting local businesses.
The app, created in collaboration with the Bodega and Small Business Association of New York, promises to deliver groceries in less than 15 minutes with no fee. Orders are also available for pick-up.
Plus, bodegas can choose to accept cash-only payments, which other third-party apps do not currently allow. And, according to Eater, My Bodega Online will not take a commission from bodegas during the outbreak. The company plans to collect 50 cents per transaction following that.
Currently, orders are only being accepted at some bodegas in the Bronx. The app will soon expand to other boroughs, with a goal to get more than 1,000 stores registered over the next six weeks, according to the website.
There are more than 16,000 bodegas in New York City. “We will work for our community. Our clients need us,” Francisco Marte, the founder of the Bodega and Small Association of New York, said in a press release. “The Governor of New York needs us. We want to serve.”
