Two new buildings in prime Williamsburg are launching affordable housing lotteries this week. The rental at 196 North 4th Street is accepting applications from New Yorkers earning 80 and 130 percent of the area median income for studios to two-bedroom apartments, starting at $1,174/month. At 660 Driggs Avenue, those earning the same AMI can apply for units, starting at $1,458/month for a two-bedroom and going up to $2,320/month for a one-bedroom.
Both rentals, currently under construction, sit off of Metropolitan Avenue in an area that has evolved over the last decade from hipster to high-end; Equinox, Whole Foods, and Lululemon are all within walking distance. At 196 North 4th, residents have access to a rec room, terrace, bike storage room, and a laundry room. At 660 Driggs, bike storage and card-operated laundry are available.
But Williamsburg’s cool factor remains, with endless options for awesome food and drink. The two rentals sit near wine bar Four Horsemen, beloved steakhouse St. Anselm, and BBQ joint Fette Sau. And culture still reigns in the Brooklyn neighborhood, with venues like Knitting Factory, Nitehawk Cinema, and Baby’s All Right nearby.
The L train at Bedford Avenue is the closest subway line, with the G at Metropolitan Avenue a bit further east. The B62 bus will take you north to Long Island City, or south to Downtown Brooklyn.
Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the affordable units until February 27 for 660 Driggs and until February 28 for 196 North 4th Street.
