Yet another cool way to experience the Eero Saarinen-designed TWA Hotel at JFK Airport arrives this month: Starting November 30, a custom 56-by-44-foot Runway Rink will be open for ice skating on the hotel’s tarmac surrounding the 1958 Lockheed Constellation Connie airplane-turned-cocktail-lounge. In addition to sharpening your figure-8 skills, you can catch nostalgic ice skating shows and chill with frosty beers, sno-caps and more.

The ice rink events are part of the TWA Hotel’s winter wonderland where you’ll also find a dazzling holiday light display and a tree. Ice shows will have an Arctic expedition theme in honor of Connie’s history as an Alaskan bush plane after retiring from TWA. Tyler Morse, CEO and Managing Partner of MCR/MORSE Development (owner-operator of the TWA Hotel) said in a press statement, “We’re creating the Rockefeller Center of Queens.” Not to mention the rare occasion that “people can get excited about a frozen tarmac at JFK.”
In addition to refreshments, the TWA shop will be selling knit hats and scarves to keep the real ice at bay (and possibly cross a few stocking stuffers off your holiday shopping list). The Runway Rink will operate seven days a week through the end of February. Admission is $15; $10 for kids under 12. Ice skates can be rented for $10 (kids under 12 rent for $8). Skating aids for children are available. Skaters are welcome at the following times:
- Monday through Thursday from 4 PM to 9 PM
- Friday from 4 PM to 10 PM
- Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 10 PM
