Another Manhattan condominium building tries to dump Trump name

The condominium board at 120 Riverside Boulevard announced Thursday that they had voted to remove the “Trump Place” sign from their building’s facade, the Washington Post reports. The vote follows a decision last October to remove the Trump Place sign from the nearby condo at 200 Riverside Boulevard. Since Trump was elected president, five New York City buildings have opted to remove the Trump stamp in an expression of displeasure with the former reality show host who got his start here.
Somewhat surprisingly, the vote was just 55 percent in favor of taking down the large sign at 120 Riverside which, like its neighbors at number 200, stands in the heart of the proudly liberal Upper West Side, where residents have increasingly sought to distance themselves from the man and his politics and the building’s name began to seem more irksome than luxurious.
The removal of the Trump name at 120 Riverside won’t cost Trump’s company any money. The company doesn’t manage the building, nor does it get any licensing revenue from the use of the Trump name. In Manhattan, Trump’s name still appears on 11 condo buildings; CityRealty found that, in dollars per square foot, the prices at those buildings started to decline 2016 and continued to fall in 2018, showing that though the Trump buildings once traded at a premium, the price per square foot of units in Trump buildings is actually below average.
