Apple is looking to move to a Hudson Yards office tower, the New York Post reported Monday. The company is in advanced talks to secure 60,000 square feet at 55 Hudson Yards, a 51-story building opening soon, as well as possible retail space at the mega-development site. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and Kevin Roche, the 779-foot-tower features light-filled offices with modest-sized floor plans.
Current tenants already secured for 55 Hudson Yards include several law firms, Point72 Asset Management, the hedge fund Third Point, and private equity firm Silver Lake. Sources told the Post that Apple is also in talks with Related Companies and majority owner Mitsui Fudosan for the tech giant to have a retail presence at the complex.
Apple’s New York City headquarters is located on West 14th Street in Chelsea, a short drive or subway ride from the Hudson Yards site. The company has stores at 11 locations throughout the five boroughs, with seven in Manhattan alone.
Construction of 55 Hudson Yards wrapped up in October, with the office building expected to open sometime soon. As 6sqft reported last March, the Related and Oxford Properties Group hope to bring high-end, never-before-seen amenities at the tower. This includes a members-only medical clinic run by Mount Sinai Health System, with doctors available for house calls.
Other perks of the building include multiple double-height terraces, as well as one setback along the 10th floor with High Line and Hudson River views.
Late last year, Google announced plans to also expand its West Side presence. The company announced in December it would invest $1 billion to open 1.7 million square feet of office space in Hudson Square, increasing its NYC footprint, and doubling its workforce over the next decade.
