Bjarke Ingels-designed office tower in Nomad still on track
While all has been quiet regarding HFZ Capital Group’s office tower in Nomad since December, new documents from the Department of Buildings documents filed on Tuesday reveal the project is still on track. CityRealty uncovered a ZD-1 zoning diagram online with a site plan, section, and axonometric drawing that mirror renderings released last year. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group, the tower will rise from a through-block property at 3-7 West 29th Street.
Last fall, HFZ Capital swapped architects, from Moshe Safdie to Bjarke Ingels of BIG. With the switch, the design grew from a 33 or 34 story tower to a roughly 60-story tower, dubbed “29th and 5th.” The building, first acquired by HFZ in 2013, replaces the historic Bancroft Bank Building, which was demolished in 2015.
Current renderings from the developer’s website feature an 800-foot-tall tower with at least 50 floors. The group calls the 600,000-square-foot project not just class “A,” but class “A+” office space.
The building will be set back from West 29th and 30th Streets. The building will be constructed of concrete, instead of steel. Renderings also show clear and open floorplates for tenants and unique side terraces.
HFZ acquired 9 West 29th Street for $54.3 million and 20-22 West 30th Street for $29.8 million in July. If the developer absorbs these properties into the tower’s footprint, as CityRealty reported, the end design could change drastically.
