New tool maps every active construction project in NYC in real time
New York City’s construction craze just got easier to track, thanks to a new tool that maps every major, active project across the five boroughs. The city’s Department of Buildings released this week an interactive map and dashboard that provides real-time information on every active construction site in the city. According to the data, there are currently 7,437 active permits filed and nearly 198,000,00 total square feet of construction, as of Wednesday.
Hudson Yards is currently home to the city’s two largest projects
Buildings on the map are labeled by square footage, estimated cost and proposed dwelling units. The bigger the bubble displayed, the bigger, more expensive and higher capacity the project.
Below it, a dashboard ranks projects by size, cost, height and number of units. These top 10 lists of active sites are updated daily.
According to the data, the biggest active project is located at 500 West 33rd Street, the site of 30 Hudson Yards, which measures an incredible 3.9 million square feet. The 90-story tower topped out in July at 1,296 feet.
Hudson Yards is also home to the second biggest construction site at 415 10th Avenue, or 50 Hudson Yards, the Norman Foster-designed office tower. It measures just over 2.9 million square feet.
As for the most expensive, 30 Hudson Yards takes the top spot at over $576 million, followed by One Wall Street at $448 million and 50 Hudson Yards at over $431 million.
Largest number of dwelling units can be found in Long Island City
While most of the buildings that made the top 10 lists are located in Manhattan, five projects in Queens made the list for most dwelling units. All five are located in Long Island City. These include 5Pointz at 22-44 Jackson Avenue (1,115 units), the Hayden (974 units), 23-03 44th Road (923 units), Court Square City View Tower (802 units), and Eagle Lofts (790 units).
