Governors Island is now open late all weekend

In April, the Trust for Governors Island announced extended Friday hours for the 2018 season, allowing visitors to explore the island until 10pm. And now, thanks to a sponsorship from Grey Goose, they’ll also remain open late on Saturdays, all the way to 11pm. “Late Saturdays” begin tomorrow and run through September 1st, with all ferries free after 6pm. As Governors Island says, “Visitors can now enjoy stunning sunsets overlooking New York Harbor, take leisurely bike rides around the Hills and visit Island Oyster for a Grey Goose Fair Winds Fizz specialty cocktail.”

Grey Goose’s sponsorship is in partnership with waterfront restaurant and bar Island Oyster. The 2,000-square-foot space can seat 600 guests and serves up seasonal seafood and tropical cocktails. For more food and drink options, there will be additional vendors on Late Saturdays at Liggett Terrace and Soissons Landing East. In addition to drinking and eating, you’ll be able to explore the entire island after dark, from Colonels Row’s historic homes to the Hills and the promenade.
On Late Fridays, there are still three more opportunities to catch “Escape in New York: Outdoor Films on Governors Island.” On July 13th they’ll be screening “Desperately Seeking Susan,” on August 10th “Ghostbusters,” and on September 14th “The Last Dragon.” And if you don’t want to leave, you can always drop $650 a night to go glamping on the island.
