Reaching over 1,000 feet, 35 Hudson Yards tops out as the mega-project’s tallest residential building

The first residential supertall to rise at the Hudson Yards mega-project officially topped out this week at 1,009 feet. Developed by Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group, 35 Hudson Yards rises 72 floors and is now considered the ninth tallest structure in New York City, YIMBY reported. Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM) designed the 1.1 million-square-foot mixed-use tower, which will accommodate 137 private residences, an Equinox-branded hotel and fitness club, office space and ground-floor retail.
The tower’s limestone-and-glass exterior features a series of setbacks that twist around the building. According to SOM: “Terraces at each setback create outdoor gardens that become smaller and more frequent toward the top of the tower.” The architects designed 35 Hudson Yards to achieve LEED Gold certification.

Below the residences, luxury fitness chain Equinox, which is owned by Related, will provide a 215-key hotel, a 60,000-square-foot gym and spa, and a SoulCycle on the ground-floor.

The residential supertall is expected to be completed in 2019. The tower’s neighbor, 30 Hudson Yards, is close to topping out as well. Last month, 6sqft looked at the projected 1,296-foot tall building’s 1,100-foot high outdoor observation deck, which will be the highest in the city.
