And whether they are fully off-the-grid or just feel like it, they’ll restore your mind and spirit as you return to nature but don’t have to give up your high thread count sheets, wifi or working showers. 1. The Glass House

Move over Philip Johnson, now we can all sleep in a glass house. Honored with the title “the world’s most beautiful tiny house” by Forbes, the Hudson Valley Glass House is a magical off-the-grid getaway. Just a 90-minute drive from New York City, the glass house is situated on 30 acres of rolling hills with total privacy as glass walls open onto endless views of vineyards and apple orchards. The Solar Escape Vista-Model Tiny House is almost totally off-the-grid but maintains modern comforts such as Wi-Fi and air-conditioning to give guests the best of both worlds. Rates start at $200 a night.
2. The Dome
Woodridge, New York
Hang like Buckminster Fuller in a geodesic dome! Woodridge is a rural community located in the southern Catskill Mountains perfect for hiking, swimming, being surrounded by animals and cooking. This is a BYOB (last B=bed) dome so bring your own air mattresses, camping air pads, sleeping bags, pillows, and towels. There is a wooden floor in the dome and screen windows for airflow and to keep out bugs. There are outdoor double hot showers, a sink, and a claw foot bathtub. Also, a complete outdoor kitchen and grill, fridge, sink, and big fire pit are available for your use.

Animals on the farm include merino sheep, angora goats, angora rabbits, oberhasli dairy goats, chickens (running free so dogs must be leashed!), one cat and a dog named Lali. There is also a greenhouse and vegetable garden, a pond for doggies to go swimming, and a lake across the street. And as a surprise amenity, there is a full-service recording studio on the premises as well as a fiber arts workshop space. Rates start at $350 a night.

Their Hudson Valley Collective is a two-hour drive from New York City. This bucolic retreat is set on Liberty Farms, a working organic farm and equestrian center. There is easy access to Hudson’s stylish boutiques and design shops, as well as a variety of outdoor activities and historical sites. The retreat is surrounded by terrific farms and food producers and has easy access to hikes, historical sites, and much more. Rates start range from $475 to $700 a night for luxury tents.

The Collective Retreat’s Governors Island site is New York City like you have never experienced before. A quick ferry ride from downtown Manhattan, the peaceful oasis is nestled near the hills of historic Governors Island. As 6sqft previously reported, “As part of a three-year license, the company will transform six acres of the 172-acre island into an “environmentally-friendly overnight lodging retreat with unobstructed views of the Statue of Liberty.” There will be room for 100 guests per night who will have the option of a $500-$850/night “luxury” tent or a $175-$330/night “premium bell tent.” The difference is that the luxury option comes with King-sized beds and private decks equipped with Adirondack chairs.
5. Mountain Horse Farm Tipis

Mountain Horse Farm B&B and Wellness Retreat is a bucolic, secluded, 33-acre farm with gorgeous views of the Finger Lakes Wine Country. The property offers glamping in traditional Sioux tipis and, if you decide to stress the “glamour” in glamping, there are elegant rooms with fireplaces as well as jacuzzis. Glampers can add spa services like massages and acupressure treatments at the on-site spa. The site also offers wine tours, transportation services, and a horse sanctuary where guests can schedule wellness sessions with horses. Rates start at $150 a night for a tipi.
6. Private Farm Tents

Only a 15-minutes drive from Ithaca and nearby gorges and wineries, this quaint glamping tent is situated on a small farm with free-range peafowl, chickens, and sheep. Guests are invited to make themselves an egg breakfast courtesy of the resident hens. There is also a “coffee station” in the “big” kitchen, a shared full bath with on-demand hot water and shower, and an outdoor summer kitchen for grilling and dining. The tent comes with a double bed, refrigerator, dresser, and loveseat. Visitors can also swim in nearby ponds.
But if you’re looking to sleep in, the owners warn, “Please know this is a farm and the farm animals are early risers. We provide earplugs on the bedside table for those of you who are not!” They allow dogs because but they are “considered an extra person.” Rates start at $125 a night.
7. Gatherwild Ranch Off-the-grid Tent
Germantown, New York
This private and luxurious bell tent is set on a beautiful field and comes with a cedar deck and firepit. It features a queen-size bed with fresh linens and includes a washing basin inside and sheepskins “for snuggling.” The tent faces east for great sunrises; solar lights glow inside in the evening, and the stargazing is reportedly spectacular!

There is no electricity but they have composting toilets and a solar shower with a backup indoor shower. An outdoor kitchen and charcoal grill are all shared spaces. The off-grid tent is situated on 75 acres of land, which is all free for roaming. It is also a 15-minute walk to their partner sheep farm. Rates start at $110 a night.
8. Upstate Yurts

These yurts are located in Granville, New York. It’s a four-hour drive north of NYC, but you certainly won’t regret the time in the car. The yurts are securely designed in a circular formation from wooden frames with sturdy cables supporting the structures, encircled by insulated canvas covers. There are four yurts on the property: a 30-foot yurt that can accommodate up to 11 people, a 24-foot yurt that can hold eight people, and two 20-foot yurts for six people each.
Inside the yurts, glampers will find a kitchen area equipped with a refrigerator, a microwave, a coffee maker, a toaster oven, and dinnerware. Each yurt includes beds, a heater and a fan, a sofa, a DVD player, and electricity mod cons for total comfort. Free Wi-Fi is available in the yurts. Every yurt has a picnic table outside, as well as a fire pit. Glampers will also find a welcome pack that includes ice cream or ice-lollies, milk, water, coffee, tea, and cookies with every reservation. There is no light pollution at this glamping site, so the stargazing is incredible. The tents have a “fly” over them so they stay remarkably cool during the day.
