New renderings for ODA’s archway-filled hotel in Crown Heights

ODA Architects’ boutique hotel planned for the Brooklyn neighborhood of Crown Heights got fresh renderings this week, revealing more details about its archway-filled, concrete design. Developed by All Year Management, the Bedford Hotel is located at 1550 Bedford Avenue, right by the Prospect Park, Brooklyn Museum and the Botanic Gardens. As designboom learned, the 100-room hotel’s archway design stems from the classic Brooklyn architecture found elsewhere in the neighborhood, like the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Arch at the Grand Army Plaza.
Located on the corner of busy Eastern Parkway, the Bedford Hotel will rise five stories, contains 100 rooms and measures 38,000 square feet. The arch pattern can be found throughout the hotel’s exterior and interior design.
The design allows for “breathability” and an abundance of natural light in most of the spaces. The hotel will include a rooftop bar and a restaurant on the ground floor. According to ODA, the “corridors and rooms hug residents and guests with curved edges that allude to the building’s bent shape, poetic notes that feel equally familiar and old world.”
The exterior will be constructed of concrete with black dye infused, giving it a darker stone-feel. Inside, walls will feature a brighter, more cozy look, with whitewashed oak.
The contrast in color of the exterior and interior reflects a transition from public into private space, according to the architects. The hotel will include plenty of outdoor patio space, as well as a floating garden landscape.
Located just one block from Franklin Avenue’s hip bars and restaurants, as well as the 2, 3, 4 and 5 train lines, the hotel will be a convenient short-term stay for Brooklyn visitors.
