REVEALED: Central Park Tower’s ‘Village Green’ lawn and pool deck
Central Park Tower, New York City’s future tallest residential skyscraper, is getting a more down-to-earth design. As CityRealty learned, the supertall at 225 West 57th Street on Billionaires’ Row will feature a sprawling landscaped space designed by HMWhite. The firm’s terrace design includes both passive and active recreational areas, like a central open lawn and a sequence of complimentary garden rooms. Renderings of the projected 1,550-foot tall tower reveal a lap pool overlooking West 57th Street and a sun deck among pergolas and trellises.
HMWhite previously designed the lobby gardens at the New York Times building, the terraces at Brooklyn’s tallest tower HUB and Related’s MiMa. According to the landscape firm’s website, a “shared sense of community” will be met through the central open lawn. Furthering the sense of fellowship, the design’s fluidity inspires social engagement. The Garden Commons will become the building’s village green, the residents’ personal backyard.
The deck will be linked to the building’s other amenities that will span three full floors. According to paperwork filed with the city, this includes a cigar room, lounge and banquet rooms and a tween lounge. Plus, a few floors above there will be an indoor swimming pool, wading pool, and fitness center.

A Nordstrom department store is expected to anchor the first seven levels of the building, with a hotel next and then topped by 126 condominiums. Construction continues to move along quickly, with the Nordstrom store opening in 2019 and residential occupancy expected by 2020.
