Hunt Architecture’s garden studio offers a tiny backyard retreat in Boerum Hill
Sometimes you don’t need to go far to escape the frenzy of the city. Forget about charming mountain retreats or luxury seaside homes, this humble beauty provides the perfect place to escape it all right in a Boerum Hill, Brooklyn backyard. Crafted by local studio Hunt Architecture using salvaged cedar and fence pickets, the Brooklyn Garden Studio is a grown-up version of the classic treehouse.
To make this humble 55-square-foot structure, the architects built a wooden platform that rests on concrete bricks. This cabin uses vertical wooden planks and has an inclined roof that is half planted/half skylight.
The clean, white interior fits a small twin-sized bed, chair, low table, fluffy carpet, and a lamp (yes, it has electricity!).
A long rectangular window has been placed on one of the faces allowing views of the garden and main house.
Perfect for disconnecting, reading, meditating, or even sleeping overnight, the cabin’s only lacking a toilet. But then again, the main home is just a few feet away.
