‘Gatsby’-inspired Art Deco theater with state-of-the-art technology opens at Manhattan West

A new theater opening in Midtown next month adds a modern twist to a classic New York City experience. Opening on September 21 at Brookfield Properties’ mixed-use development Manhattan West, Midnight Theatre is a 160-seat performance venue that flaunts an Art Deco-inspired interior coupled with state-of-the-art technology. The theater includes a 270-degree immersive projection system that can alter the appearance of the venue’s interior and can “transport visitors anywhere as part of a performance’s narrative or needs.” Conceptualized by creative director Warren Adcock, the venue will be a hotspot for music, theatre, performance art, and magic.

The Midnight Theatres’ projection system digitally alters the design of the space and includes built-in animated scenery and animated environments that react to music, according to a press release. The flexibility of the space allows for a variety of different performances.
Events at the theater are set to begin in early September with an exclusive Midnight Theatre Showcase created by Adcock. Later in the month, the full fall and winter lineup will kick off with the premiere of A Brief History of Magic.
Hidden Leaf, a Pan-Asian restaurant, is located within the Midnight Theatre. There is also a 70s-inspired aperitivo bar Midnight Cafe on the street level.
“With the theater opening, this completes the dream of creating the ideal New York night out all under one roof. There’s been such a positive response to the opening of Hidden Leaf, and it’s been rewarding to see guests come enjoy the dining and cocktails that we have to offer,” Adcock stated in a press release.
“We are beyond excited to extend their experience inside the walls of the tech-enhanced Midnight Theatre with intimate, one-of-a-kind storytelling across magic, music, comedy and much more.”
Midnight Theatre is located at 75 Manhattan West Plaza between 9th and 10th Avenues and West 31st and 33rd Streets.
Manhattan West opened last September after more than three decades in the making. The mixed-use campus was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and encompasses seven million square feet of retail, office, residential, and hospitality space spread across six buildings.
