The second priciest single-family home ever sold in Brooklyn has officially closed. The Anglo-Italianate five-bedroom townhouse at 1 Sidney Place in Brooklyn Heights sold for $22.1 million in April; Glossier founder Emily Weiss was identified as the buyer. About a half mile away, the borough’s most expensive single-family sale remains 8 Montague Terrace, which sold for $25.5 million in 2020.

As first reported by the Real Deal, Weiss and her partner William Gaybrick bought the home at 1 Sidney Place, which was originally asking $22.5 million, in April. Notably, the purchase marked the couple’s second townhouse purchase in six months after they bought a townhouse at 118 West 12th Street in Greenwich Village for $17.9 million last November.

Weiss, who founded the beauty company Glossier in 2014, put the Village home, once owned by Mitchell Lichtenstein, the son of famous pop artist Roy Lichtenstein, on the market for $18.9 million in April. The property sold just three weeks later, according to the Real Deal.

On the corner of Joralemon Street, 1 Sidney Place was built around 1870 and has since been fully renovated by owner The Brooklyn Home Company. The group reimagined the historic home to pay tribute to its past, with intricate moldings and plaster medallions, while bringing the property into the 21st century with curated lighting, millwork, and upscale fixtures throughout.

The home’s first floor includes a living room flanked by oriel windows, a dining room with a bay window and fireplace, a kitchen with custom cabinetry and Calacatta marble, and a terrace. The kitchen has top-of-the-line appliances, including a La Cornue dual-fuel range, a Wolf range hood, a Bosch dishwasher, and a refrigerator and wine fridge from Sub-Zero.

The garden level features a mudroom with bench seating, laundry, and closets, as well as a more casual living space. This floor also features a wet bar with a wine fridge, ice maker, and dishwasher, and a bedroom suite “ideal for staff,” according to the listing.

A bedroom, bath, and third living space with a fireplace and built-ins are on the third floor. There’s also access to another spacious terrace. A huge primary suite is on the third level, outfitted with a walk-in closet and en-suite bathroom. The top floor has two additional bedrooms with bathrooms and another living room.

At the very top is a rooftop terrace that is summer barbecue-ready with a grill, refrigerator, and ice maker.

Inspired by former 1 Sidney Place resident, mid-century artist John Graham, Brooklyn Home Company commissioned art curator Glenn Adamson to curate an exhibition inside the home in partnership with Severin Delfs of Hollis Taggart. The exhibition was on display in April.
