Buy a piece of the NYC subway at the MTA’s memorabilia pop-up shop

After two previous years as a holiday shopping success, New York City Transit is once again offering genuine used subway system items for sale at their Memorabilia and Collectibles Pop-Up Shop. You’ll find subway signs, grabholds, and more, with no processing fees. Read on to find out how to score an authentic piece of transit history.
In addition to the aforementioned items, past offerings have included a wooden station bench, side rolls from subway cars, and–what you really want in your kitchen–a genuine used subway station garbage can. If you’d rather just buy the germs without actually having to ride the subway, this unique shopping opportunity is happening from December 13-15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Historic subway items are available for sale throughout the year through the MTA memorabilia sales program, which lists items like subway line strip maps ($100), grabhholds ($25) and stancheon poles ($75), vintage tokens ($2.37 and up) and, yes, trash cans ($375), subject to availability.
The pop-up is being held in a “secret” outdoor location in South Brooklyn, though it’s open to the public; you’ll need to RSVP here to get the address (and sign a waiver to enter). The sale is pick-up only (no delivery), but they do accept Visa and Mastercard.
