The tallest residential tower on Fifth Avenue has officially topped out. Developed by Rabina and designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), the 88-story mixed-use tower at 520 Fifth Avenue has topped out at 1,002 feet, making it the second tallest structure on the iconic corridor after the Empire State Building. Slated for completion in 2025, the elegant skyscraper will feature boutique office floors on the lower levels, with luxury condos beginning on the 42nd floor.

Inspired by the classic Beaux-Arts buildings of New York, KPF pays tribute to Fifth Avenue’s rich architectural history with a refreshing twist.

The building “resonates” with nearby buildings like Grand Central Terminal, the Fred F. French building, and the Century Association, James von Klemperer, president and design principal at KPF, told the New York Times.

Situated on the corner of 43rd Street and Fifth Avenue, the sleek structure features a series of tiered setbacks with signature glazed terracotta arches framing 10-foot by 10-foot glass apertures. As the building nears its pinnacle, the arches switch to painted aluminum with bronze extrusions, according to the Times.

The tower has a slenderness ratio of 1:12, making it one of the skinniest buildings in the city, according to CityRealty.

“520 Fifth Avenue’s design is a modern interpretation of the architecture of stepping towers that has given Midtown Manhattan its distinctive character since the adoption of the zoning laws of 1916,” James von Klemperer, KPF President and Design Principal, said.

“It has been an honor to work alongside the Rabinas on this extraordinary project that will create a new architectural landmark along Fifth Avenue, and appear prominently on the skyline.”

The luxury condos occupy the top 40 floors of the tower, providing all residents with expansive views of the Manhattan skyline and landmarks like Bryant Park, Central Park, and the Empire State Building.

The building’s 100 residences, ranging from one to four bedrooms, feature interior design by Charles & Co. and have already sold 70 percent of units. With ceiling heights reaching up to 14 feet, each home is designed to provide the pinnacle of modern living.

Kitchens feature state-of-the-art appliances, ribbed walnut islands, white lacquer cabinetry, and quartzite slab countertops and backsplashes. Bathrooms include custom vanities, marble countertops, herringbone marble flooring, and polished nickel fixtures.

Ranging from 6,500 to 12,000 square feet, the office space is located on the ninth through 34th floors of the building.

The office floors are meant to feel like an “extension of the home,” with private bathrooms, separate HVAC systems on each floor, and spacious private terraces and loggias featuring arched operable windows that enhance natural light and airflow throughout the interiors, according to the Times.

Located two floors above and below the lobby and retail space, residents will have access to a members-only hospitality club called Moss, which offers world-class dining, recreation, athletics, and wellness services.

On the 88th floor, an amenity suite features a striking glass-walled solarium, lounge, dining room, library, and game room.

Located in the heart of Midtown just a block from Bryant Park and Grand Central Terminal, 520 Fifth Avenue provides direct access to some of the city’s most iconic attractions, from world-class shopping on Fifth Avenue to the endless entertainment options in the Theater District.

Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group is managing marketing and sales for the residences, and JLL is serving as the official leasing company for the office space.

Sales launched at 520 Fifth Avenue in April, with condos priced from $1.7 million. As CityRealty reported, the first penthouse entered contract at $11.95 million last week.
