Fotografiska New York to offer discounted museum admission on second Sundays

The photography museum Fotografiska New York will soon offer discounted admission on the second Sunday of every month. Starting on February 11, the contemporary museum is offering $10 admission on second Sundays; tickets normally cost $31 for adults. Located at 281 Park Avenue South in Gramercy, the museum offers visitors engaging photography exhibitions, coffee and pastries at its cafe, and a curated retail shop.

The Stockholm-based photography museum opened its first U.S. location in Gramercy’s historic Church Missions House in 2019. The stunning Renaissance Revival building was restored and redesigned by CetraRuddy, who worked with Higgins Quasebarth & Partners to preserve the landmark structure’s stained-glass windows and limestone and granite facade.

The second floor features the restaurant Verōnika, designed by Roman and Williams and operated by STARR Restaurants. Named after the patron saint of photography, the 150-seat restaurant is inspired by the look of grand European cafes, featuring elegant details and textures like 20-foot ceilings, warm brass chandeliers, wood-trimmed arched doorways, velvet banquettes, and leather chairs.

Currently on view at Fotografiska are “Human / Nature: Encountering Ourselves in the Natural World,” an international exploration of the complex relationship between humans and the environment, and “Futuristic Ancestry: Warping Matter and Space-time(s),” the U.S. debut of French multimedia artist Josèfa Ntjam. Also on view is a retrospective of American photographer Frank Ockenfels 3.

The museum also offers an early bird special with discounted tickets Mondays through Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Fotografiska joins another major NYC art institution that has recently updated its admission policies. In December, the Whitney Museum of American Art announced that starting January 12, the institution would drop its “pay-what-you-wish” system on Fridays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on the second Sunday of every month. During these times, admission is free for all visitors.
