Go camping among the trees in this $195/night treehouse in Upstate New York
Trade the racket of cars honking and music blaring, for the blissful sounds of whispering wind and singing birds at this charming airbnb getaway in Upstate New York. Not only is this rental off-the-grid (there is no WiFi or electricity), it’s located in an actual treehouse. What the pad lacks in modern convenience, it makes up for in rustic charm and natural ambience. Located in the rural Upstate neighborhood of Argyle, the treehouse, called the Whispering Wind Treehouse on its listing, can accommodate two guests in its one bedroom, starting at $195 per night.
The loft fits a full bed with “crisp cotton sheets.” Notably, the roof is made of clear glass, allowing for perfect star gazing at night and amazing light-filled mornings. The owner describes the treehouse as bringing “us back to a state of childlike wonder, to memories of the simplicity of sleeping with the trees, while giving one a feeling of being nestled.”
The openness of the treehouse makes it feel more like a camping experience than traditional indoor lodging. The windows are all salvaged and do not have any screening, so natural bug spray is recommended.
Below the loft, there is a full sized futon and a small table. The treehouse boasts a front balcony which overlooks the field in front of the home. During the colder months, guests can use the gas fireplace. There is also an outdoor fire pit in the field, perfect for making summer s’mores.
Fresh well water, fair trade coffee and teas, two burner propane gas cooktops, basic kitchen supplies and a charcoal grill are all provided, but guests have to bring their own charcoal and firewood.
Fitting with the camping theme, guests will have access to a compost outhouse on the ground level. There is also a shared outdoor shower, but the owner requests only natural, biodegradable soap and shampoos be used.
