The luxurious Italian wellness spa on Governors Island, QC New York, is gearing up for a major expansion this summer. QC NY on Thursday announced plans to open a 15,000-square-foot addition in July, featuring sensory saunas, waterfalls, a salt room, a lavender room, an ice room, a relaxation room with waterbeds, and a 142-seat restaurant. The new multi-million dollar expansion will be located in Building 111.

The highlight of the expansion is Casa QC, a 5,000-square-foot, 142-seat bistro offering beverages and a variety of Italian-inspired eats, including artisanal gelato and aperitivo trays with delicacies like aged pecorino and taralli crackers. The new dining option will complement QC’s existing food and drink vendor, Flora Cafe.

“Our philosophy of inviting guests to slow down and get lost has made our locations in Italy and France a massive success, and it’s been rewarding to see New Yorkers, who aren’t exactly known for their ability to relax, wholeheartedly embrace this approach,” Andrea Quadrio Curzio, CEO and co-founder of QC Spa of Wonders, said.

“We’re excited to enhance the QC New York experience with the opening of our second building, which will provide even more opportunities for guests to unwind, escape, and recharge.”

The spa is already planning another expansion, slated to open in spring 2025, which will bring QC NY’s footprint to 100,000 square feet of wellness amenities.

Quadrio Curzio continued: “At QC New York, it’s not just about the experiences and the pools – though the view from the pools alone was certainly worth the paperwork. It’s also about the small blink-and-you-miss-it details that we’ve infused into every single inch of the spa – things that most people won’t notice, but we’ve spent hours of deliberation to get just right.”

“The expansion is a key piece of the puzzle in our vision of becoming part of the City’s DNA, and that means appealing to born-and-bred New Yorkers, those diehards who call the City home.”

QC NY opened in March 2022, marking the luxury resort brand’s first venture outside Europe. Open year-round, the relaxation hub has quickly become a favorite of New Yorkers and this year was awarded the Best Wellness Experience 2024 by National Geographic and New York Magazine’s Best of New York 2024.

The spa is situated within numerous historic buildings on Governors Island. When the island was first transferred from federal to city control in 2012, the Trust for Governors Island searched for proposals to adapt over 50 of the island’s former military buildings for reuse. In 2015, QC NY was selected as one of the first year-round residents of the island.

Admission starts at $98 on weekdays and $124 on weekends, and includes access to the spa’s pools, relaxation areas, saunas, and other offerings, as well as bathrobes, sandals, towers, and complimentary showers. You can book a visit to QC NY here.
