Grand Central Terminal joins ‘Summer Streets’ for the first time

Grand Central Terminal is participating in New York City’s “Summer Streets” program for the first time ever. The annual event closes several miles of streets to cars to make space for outdoor recreation and activities. On August 10 and 17, the iconic train hall will host “The Grand Lawn,” at 40th Street and Park Avenue, offering free outdoor lawn games and food and drink provided by Grand Central eateries.
Featured vendors include Magnolia Bakery, Doughnut Plant, Joey Bats, Murray’s Cheese, Dirty Taco, and many more.
On July 27, Summer Streets returned to the five boroughs, with this year’s program featuring two more hours of fun on select Saturdays between July 27 and August 24, extending the usual hours of operation to 7 a.m. through 3 p.m.
The 2023 program doubled the previous year’s size, offering nearly 20 miles of car-free streets in all five boroughs for the first time;

NYC’s Open Streets program is also in effect, closing more than 100 streets to vehicle traffic and transforming them into safe public spaces for recreation, programming, and more. This year’s program features new locations, including Audubon Avenue in Manhattan, Decatur Avenue in the Bronx, 62nd Street in Queens, and Bristol Street in Brooklyn.
