Edge, the city’s highest outdoor observation deck at 1,131 feet (as well as the highest in the entire western hemisphere), is all ready for its first holiday season. The Hudson Yards attraction is adorned with 50,000 twinkling lights illuminating the Skyline Steps and interior spaces and is offering a limited-edition holiday “Cocoa in the Clouds” to keep you nice and toasty while you take in those insane views.
Though the larger Hudson Yards complex opened in March of 2019, Edge opened to the public on March 11th of this year, which meant that it sadly had to close just two days later due to the pandemic. Along with the climbable Vessel attraction, Edge reopened on September 2nd, operating at a 25-percent capacity with a slew of safety protocols in place such as temperature screenings, mask requirements, social-distancing markers, contactless elevators, and enhanced filtration systems. They also adapted to the new normal with fun events like outdoor, sky-high yoga classes.
The observation deck extends 80 feet from the 100th floor of 30 Hudson Yards and is connected to Peak, the 101st-floor restaurant/cocktail bar/event space. Peak reopened for indoor dining on October 6th.
From December 18th to January 4th, Edge will offer extended holiday hours, open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. And from now until January 4th, guests will enjoy the outdoor lights, along with “brilliantly lit trees and giant hot air balloon displays,” according to a press release.
The special Cocoa in the Clouds beverage is “a classic hot chocolate layered in fresh, made-to-order whipped cream and topped with a rice crispy treat coated in crushed peppermint” (those 21+ can make it boozy!).
