Shortly after returning to Earth following a quick journey into space last month, billionaire Jeff Bezos bought another apartment at a Flatiron building for an otherworldly $23 million. As first reported by the New York Post, Bezos has picked up a four-bedroom unit at 212 Fifth Avenue, where he already owns a three-story penthouse and three residences below it. With this latest addition to his real estate portfolio, the Amazon founder now owns $119 million worth of apartments in this condo building.
According to the Post, Bezos reached a deal in July for unit 20A and closed on August 6. His new apartment sits underneath the penthouse that stretches across the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th floors and the two units on the 21st floor.
In April 2020, Bezos paid $16 million for a three-bedroom unit on the 20th floor. His latest purchase adds over 4,100 square feet to the mega-mansion he’s building at the Fifth Avenue condo.
According to CityRealty, 20A was last listed for $18.1 million, roughly 23 percent lower than the final sales price.
His newest apartment has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and views of Madison Square Park. Residents of 212 Fifth Avenue have access to a gym, yoga studio, a golf simulator, a screening room, a game room, a children’s playroom, a lounge, and cold storage for food deliveries.
Bezos’ new neighbors told the Post they are “thrilled” to have the world’s richest person move in, as “his presence has helped up their property values.”
Formerly an office building and now home to 48 condo residences, the 24-story Fifth Avenue tower was one of New York City’s first skyscrapers and tallest buildings when constructed in 1913. Designed by Schwartz & Gross, the building boasts a dramatic Neo-Gothic facade.
