New Jersey’s spectacular 4th of July celebration is returning to the Jersey City waterfront. Mayor Steven Fulop on Wednesday announced this year’s Freedom and Fireworks, an all-day celebration on Independence Day featuring a free concert headlined by Garden State-raised Wyclef Jean with openers Fat Joe and Funk Flex, food vendors, family activities, and more. The event concludes with a breathtaking fireworks show by Grucci that will light up the sky above the Hudson River.
The all-day celebration, hosted by the Jersey City Night Market for the fourth consecutive year, kicks off at 12 p.m. on Montgomery Street. The event features food vendors, family activities, and more.
“The City’s support of small, local businesses is tremendous, and it is an honor to represent our city and its diversity! Guests can expect incredible food ranging from Filipino BBQ to brick oven pizza to desserts like handcrafted macarons and chocolate-covered bacon! Local artisans and creators will also be on-site, so be prepared to discover new treasures,” Alysis Vasquez, owner of MMFB Productions and Jersey City Night Market, said.
The concert takes place at Exchange Place, with Funk Flex scheduled to perform at 6 p.m., followed by Fat Joe at 7 p.m. and Wyclef Jean at 8 p.m. The grand fireworks display by Grucci, holders of the Guinness World Record for the largest fireworks display ever recorded, will begin at 9:25 p.m.
Fireworks will be launched from two barges in the middle of the Hudson River, with spectator areas available along the Hudson River Walkway from Grundy Pier to the Colgate Clock. A map of the festival can be found here.
A sixth-generation family business, Fireworks by Grucci has showcased displays at eight U.S. Presidential Inaugurations, the Olympic Games, and the World’s Fair.
Before the main performances, local talent from the Jersey City area will energize the crowds, preparing the crowds for an exciting concert and the spectacular fireworks show.
“Fat Joe, Funk Flex, and Wyclef Jean are music legends in their own right, and their performances will further elevate our Fourth of July festivities for an unforgettable day of family fun, music, and community spirit as we celebrate our nation’s independence,” Fulop said.
The Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks will join Jersey City’s display on the Hudson River for the first time in over a decade. Hosted over the East River since 2014, the annual fireworks show is switching to the west side for 2024.
