The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and JFK Millennium Partners (JMP) have announced that permanent installations by a selection of highly-regarded local and regional artists will be featured in the new $4.2 billion Terminal 6 at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Curated by the Public Art Fund, the newly commissioned public artworks will include sculptures, suspended installations, wallworks, and glass mosaic floor medallions, installed in spaces within the terminal. Terminal 6 is scheduled to open in two phases beginning in 2026.

The commissioned work by the selected artists–10 from New York City–will be integrated into the terminal to help “create a unique New York sense of place,” according to a statement. As the New York Times reported, the art budget for Terminal 6 is $22 million, funded by JFK Millennium Partners, a group of private developers led by the Vantage Group.

“Art brings visitors from across the world to New York City, and our new international gateway at JFK will be an art destination in and of itself,” George Casey, chair of the board of JFK Millennium Partners and chair and CEO of Vantage Group, said. “Stepping into the new Terminal 6, visitors will instantly feel the vibrancy of the city’s cultural life reflected in this captivating range of artworks.”

The impressive roster of artists includes Nina Chanel Abney, Nevin Aladağ, Candida Alvarez, Felipe Baeza, Kerstin Brätsch, Teresita Fernández, Charles Gaines, Sky Hopinka, Shara Hughes, Laure Prouvost, Barbara Kruger, Eddie Martinez, Kambui Olujimi, GaHee Park, Uman, Charline von Heyl, Dyani White Hawk, and Haegue Yang.

“Art takes a starring role at the new Terminal 6. Walls, floors, ceilings and volumes will all be enriched with architecturally integrated, site-specific commissions by some of the most extraordinary artists of our time,” Nicholas Baume, artistic and executive director of Public Art Fund said in a statement.

“Like Terminal 6 and New York itself, the reach of the art program is global, featuring artists from near and far, from groundbreaking, emerging voices to senior, celebrated figures.”

JFK Millennium Partners is developing the new terminal in two phases. The first will open to passengers in 2026, with construction to be completed in 2028. Terminal 6 will be a featured component of the airport’s much-anticipated $19 billion overhaul.
