Power couple John Legend and Chrissy Teigen have bought a $9 million penthouse apartment at 374 Broome Street in the same Nolita building they once lived. The duo, who first toured the three-bedroom penthouse in December, sold their former one-bedroom unit for $4 million in August 2016. John and Chrissy, who recently welcomed a baby son Miles, will get more space with the loft, which measures 2,610 square feet and includes a private rooftop terrace. According to The Real Deal, who first reported the sale, the seller is Matthew Swann, a Stubhub executive who bought the apartment for $8.6 million in 2016.
The six-story building, known as Brewster Carriage House, a designated city landmark, was constructed in 1856 as a carriage-making site for wealthy clients like the Vanderbilts. While the loft retains its antique vibe–some of the wood from the original carriage house can be found on the window sills and doors–the three-bedroom was recently given a modern upgrade.
The large open layout of the living and dining area includes a gas fireplace and 13-foot high ceilings. There are eight oversized windows, bringing in lots of light to the space. The large chef’s kitchen boasts a huge Cristallo natural white quartz island and comes with an integrated Miele dishwasher and refrigerator as well as an extra-large stainless sink.
The sprawling pad comes with two master suites, one on each side of the living area. The northern suite features a walk-in closet and a four-fixture en-suite bathroom. On the other side, the second master faces south and boasts a walk-through closet with a fix-fixture en-suite bathroom. This bathroom has an oversized Wet-style soaking bath, a separate, fully-enclosed 10-inch rainwater shower and heated floors.
The penthouse comes with its own private roof garden, accessed by a copper railing staircase. The current owner customized the terrace to include irrigated plantings, an outdoor sound system and an outdoor kitchen. Perfect for entertaining, the rooftop also boasts a motorized projection screen.
