In a partnership between L&M Development and B&S Supportive Services for the Underserved, a new 12-story affordable housing project is now accepting applications for 88 units at 294 East 162nd Street. Designed by Dattner Architects, the South Bronx building, called East 162nd Street Court, offers 126 mixed-income rental apartments, with 37 reserved for formerly homeless families. The remaining units available will be set aside for New Yorkers earning 60 and 80 percent of the area median income for units ranging from an $864 per month studio to a $1,829 three-bedroom.
The developers also collaborated with Services for the Underserved to provide supportive services for families on-site. This includes case management for mental health and substance abuse problems, as well as educational and workforce services, all found in a separate office space. In addition to these supportive programs, the building has a community room and laundry facility.
Other amenities include a 24-hour attended lobby, on-site resident manager, a landscaped courtyard, a computer room and a fitness center. Located in the newly bustling Melrose section of the Bronx, the building is closest to the D, 4 and B trains.
Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the affordable apartments at 294 East 162nd Street until January 17, 2018. Residents of Bronx Community Board 4 will be given preference for 50 percent of the units. Complete details on how to apply are available here (pdf). Questions regarding this offer must be referred to NYC’s Housing Connect department by dialing 311.
