A major new housing development in the Bronx is currently accepting applications for 127 newly constructed affordable apartments. Designed by Aufgang Architects, The Bronx Grove consists of two sustainable 11-story buildings in Bedford Park, a neighborhood home to Fordham University and the New York Botanical Garden. Qualifying New Yorkers earning 30, 40, 50, 70, and 80 percent of the area median income can apply for the apartments. For a handful of apartments available through the lottery, eligible residents will pay 30 percent of their income.
Developed by CAMBA Housing Ventures (CHV), the Bronx Grove consists of 323 units of housing across buildings at 261 East 202nd Street and 270 East 203rd Street. The development, described as being “transit-oriented” for its proximity to several subway and bus lines, is the largest by CHV to date.
There are 127 apartments available to the public through the housing lottery and 194 apartments set aside for seniors, veterans, and individuals and families experiencing homelessness and living with mental illness.
Scheduled to open this year, the development is targeting LEED-Gold and Energy Star certifications through increased insulation, energy-efficient appliances, water-saving fixtures, and solar panels, according to the developer.
The Bronx Grove has on-site laundry, bike parking, a computer room, a community kitchen, and a landscaped rear yard. On-site social services available to all residents include education and youth development programming, family counseling, nutrition services, independent living skills, mental health care, substance abuse services, and financial workshops.
The nearest transit options include the 4, B, and D subway lines, several bus lines, and a MetroNorth station.
Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the affordable units until April 11, 2023. Preference for 50 percent of the units will be given to residents of Bronx Community District 7. Complete details on how to apply are available here. Questions regarding this offer must be referred to NYC’s Housing Connect department by dialing 311.
