A vacant lot near the border of Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights–and near the burgeoning retail and restaurant scene on Franklin Avenue–was given new life in the form of Bedford Arms, an affordable housing complex built under the Mixed-Middle Income program of the New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) and the Mandatory Inclusionary Housing (MIH) program of HPD.

The nine-story high, light brick building rises above the surrounding brownstone buildings with 93 newly-constructed one-, two- and three-bedroom units within. Amenities include a visual door bell, elevators, parking (additional fees apply), bike storage, an exercise and yoga room, a laundry room and a roof deck.

The lottery officially opens on July 15, but qualifying New Yorkers can apply now for the affordable units. The deadline for the lottery is September 13, 2019. Residents of Brooklyn Community Board 8 will be given preference for 50 percent of the units. Complete details on how to apply are available here (pdf). Questions regarding this offer must be referred to NYC’s Housing Connect department by dialing 311.
