A housing lottery opened this week for 134 middle-income units at a new development in the South Bronx. Developed by Brookfield Properties, Third at Bankside is the first phase of Bankside, the most expensive private development in Bronx history. New Yorkers earning 130 percent of the area median income are eligible to apply for the apartments, which range from $1,795/month studios to $2,900/month two-bedrooms.

Located on a 4.3-acre section of the Mott Haven waterfront, Bankside is a $950 million mixed-use complex made up of seven interconnected towers containing more than 1,350 apartments. Brookfield Properties purchased the section of the waterfront in 2018 from Somerset Partners and Chetrit Group for $165 million, setting a new record for the most expensive development deal in Bronx history.

Once completed, the Bankside project will include a 34,000 square-foot public waterfront and promenade designed by MPFP, as well as retail and community facility spaces.

Designed by Hill West Architects with interiors by Whitehall Interiors and Leong Leong, the 25-story Third at Bankside offers its tenants spacious units with contemporary designs, state-of-the-art appliances, and breathtaking views of the Harlem riverfront. The rental includes 455 total units.

Amenities include a fitness center, game room, co-working lounges, children’s playroom, and a roof terrace with an outdoor pool. All apartments will be equipped with a washer and dryer unit and dishwasher. There’s also a 24/7 doorman and concierge service, as well as an on-site parking garage with valet service.

Third at Bankside is offering its first residents a special incentive package that includes no security deposit requirement, two months free rent, up to $1,000 in coverage of moving expenses, no amenity fees for one year, and a $500 grocery store credit.

Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the affordable units until April 13, 2022. Full details on how to apply can be found here. Questions regarding this offer must be referred to NYC’s Housing Connect department by dialing 311.
