Modern Smart Home in Cobble Hill Sells for $6M

January 29, 2015

The blogosphere was not impressed last year when they saw the contemporary brownstone conversion at 325 Degraw Street in Cobble Hill, calling the grey structure a “sad transformation.” And while the nondescript façade may pale in comparison to its neighboring historic homes, what lies beyond is an impressive 5,800-square-foot smart home, complete with over 800 square feet of outdoor space, a landscaped roof deck, and a basement media room. Known as the Light House, the modern mansion designed by architect James Anzalone has now found an owner, a couple who paid a hefty $6 million, according to city records released today.

The notorious façade is made of Sioux City ebonite brick and features a Siberian Larch wood accent wall and a charming front garden and top-floor terrace. Although this is a single-family home, it offers a virtual doorman system that provides concierge-like services typically found in a luxury condo building. Other smart home features–all provided by Savant Systems and controlled through iOS products–include shade control, audio/visual control, lighting control, and energy/HVAC control.

At 25 feet wide and 60 feet deep, 325 Degraw Street offers both grand, open spaces and intimate living areas. There are five bedrooms, four full baths, three powder rooms, and an 800-square-foot lower-level media center.

The open living/dining room features a large, six-foot-wide gas fireplace, a sculptural stair cutout, and stunning views of the rear garden.

The kitchen boasts 21-foot ceilings, custom-crafted Italian Cesar cabinetry, marble countertops, and high-end appliances. It’s conveniently located near the living room and garden for easy entertaining.

The rear façade of the house is perhaps more visually appealing than the front. Massive glass windows provide a view inside from the garden, which comes complete with blue stone pavers, an automated irrigation system, an outdoor kitchen, Ipe wood decking and fencing, and full landscaping. There’s also the front garden and terrace, two rear terraces, and a full roof deck.

The developers purchased 325 Degraw Street back in 2011 for $1,375,000, so they’ve certainly made their money back with this impressive sale.
