The Federal government may be banning Pride flags at U.S. embassies, but here in New York, our city agencies are prouder than ever to show off the rainbow. The latest initiative comes from the MTA, who has revealed a special set of Pride MetroCards, along with Pride-themed Transit merchandise and a new Pride logo on select subway cars. All of the festive additions mark not only World Pride being hosted in NYC this year but the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising.
The two special limited-edition MetroCards feature the official Pride logos of the tourism agencies of New York State (pictured above, right) and New York City (above, left). Only 500,000 have been printed, and they’re available at booths and vending machines at the following stations:
- Christopher Street-Sheridan Square
- Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center
- Roosevelt Avenue-Jackson Heights
- 50th Street
- 34th Street-Hudson Yards
- 34th Street-Penn Station
- 34th Street-Herald Square
- Grand Central-42nd Street
- Times Square-42nd Street
- 28th Street (1)

The heart-shaped Pride decal is part of “50 cars for 50 years after Stonewall.” To mark the 50th anniversary, the logo has been affixed “on the sides of five 10-car trains serving the 1 line, for a total of 50 cars,” according to the MTA.
Finally, a slew of Pride-themed merchandise (t-shirts, mugs, magnets, and more) is available at the three Transit Museum stores–Grand Central, 2 Broadway in lower Manhattan, and the Transit Museum itself in Downtown Brooklyn. Proceeds will support the Transit Museum.
