In a city-wide sing-along organized by the Peace of Heart Choir, New Yorkers will sing Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” out their windows tonight. The event will take place at 7:02pm, directly following the nightly #ClapBecauseWeCare ritual that’s swept the city.

“We’re hoping that singers from all across the city will join us for this new project. Just sing along out your open window when the track prompts you. Or sing from your, terrace, balcony, front yard or just in your living room. But do sing!” said the Peace of Heart Choir on the Facebook event.

The volunteer community choir was formed shortly after 9/11. They perform for free at the city’s hospitals, nursing homes, and shelters, so they hope that this event will help all New Yorkers through “the healing power of music.”

To help synchronize the event, they’ve been joined by local radio stations WKCR (89.9 FM) and WBAI (99.5 FM) who will broadcast the track this evening at 7:02pm; it will also be live-streamed on the Choir’s Facebook page. “Connect speakers to your computer or phone for the Facebook Live event, and point them out your window, so others outside might hear you,” they suggest.

The Choir says that they’d like to do different songs in the future, so keep an ear out for announcements.
