“To honor the strength and resilience” of New Yorkers this year, Airbnb has teamed up with Nasdaq and Mariah Carey to offer two lucky locals (from the same household!) the chance to ring in the new year under the Times Square Ball. The 10th-floor terrace of the Nasdaq MarketSite will hold a heated igloo-like geodesic dome to get cozy in, as well as provide panoramic views of all the live, broadcasted events and performances that will be going on that night. The guests will also get a personal, virtual greeting from Mariah Carey, a $5,000 shopping credit, and dinner by a private chef.
On the Airbnb page, virtual host Mariah Carey says:
Let’s be real: no one’s ‘obsessed’ with 2020 — and the countdown to New Year’s can’t come sooner.
New Yorkers have found the strength to carry on this year, and the people of this city are my heroes. To honor NYC’s resilience, I’m inviting two locals from the same household to call Times Square home for one night and sleep in a cozy dome atop Nasdaq’s terrace. Under the New Year’s Eve ball, say GTFO to 2020 in style.
As 6sqft reported yesterday, the Times Square Alliance announced that its annual New Year’s Eve celebration will take place virtually this year, the first time in 114 years that a crowd won’t gather in Times Square. There will be a slew of virtual offerings, as well as a live, televised broadcast that will showcase the famous ball drop and some special performances (others will be pre-recorded).
As part of this Airbnb stay, guests will be able to view the live action from the terrace. They’ll also have access to an indoor lounge where they can watch New Year’s celebrations around the world and enjoy a reading nook stocked with board games. Other perks include a trunk full of festive New Year’s Eve hats, glasses, and horns; a $5,000 shopping credit to use at shops along Fifth Avenue or in Times Square; dinner prepared by a private chef; and a sparkly piece of crystal featuring this year’s Waterford Crystal Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball design.
As outlined by Airbnb, New York City residents can request to book this one-night stay for up to two guests on December 31 for just $21. Those who request to book must prove New York City residency and currently live in the same household. Those interested in booking can do so beginning on Monday, December 21 at 9:00AM EST on airbnb.com/happyholidays.
In addition, “To honor those who have sacrificed so much to protect New Yorkers during the COVID-19 crisis and their families, Airbnb will make a $250,000 contribution to 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East’s Employer Child Care Corporation, to help provide 1199SEIU’s frontline worker members with access to high-quality child care and youth programs.”
Last week, Airbnb announced a special one-night stay at iconic toy store FAO Schwarz.
