Primark, the international clothing retailer known for its affordable prices, is opening its first store in Manhattan. The company announced on Tuesday plans to open a flagship location in Herald Square at 150 West 34th Street, between 7th Avenue and Broadway and across from the iconic Macy’s store and Penn Station. The new storefront will replace an Old Navy store that has been there since 1999.

Primark was founded in Ireland in 1969 under the Penneys brand and has since grown to operate locations in 17 countries across Europe and the United States. Other Primark stores in the city include Kings County Mall and City Point in Brooklyn; a new store will open at Queens Center later this year.

The Manhattan location will offer over 54,000 square feet of retail space, with fashion, homewares, and beauty across four floors.

“Opening a location in the epicenter of US fashion is going to be an exciting milestone for Primark US,” said Kevin Tulip, Primark US President.

“When the opportunity arose to bring Primark to Herald Square in Manhattan, a store with exceptionally high foot traffic, national influence, and perfectly located to attract customers who already know us from other Primark stores in the boroughs and surrounding areas, we knew it was the perfect fit. We’re thrilled to bring more affordable quality fashion directly to Manhattanites, commuters, and people across the world who are visiting the great city of New York.”

An opening date for the new store will be announced at a later date.

Primark is leasing the building from Vornado Realty Trust, which is currently overseeing a revamp of the neighborhood known as the Penn District, which has added new retail stores and dozens of new restaurants.

“The PENN DISTRICT is transforming into a dynamic new District offering the best in class of retail, restaurants and lifestyle offerings. We are excited for Primark to open its first Manhattan location in this vibrant neighborhood,” Ed Hogan, EVP Retail Leasing at Vornado, said.
