Brooklynites who take the R train will need to find a different way home late at night on two weekends starting Friday. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority on Thursday announced it will be partially suspending R line service between 36th Street and 95th Street stations from 11:30 p.m. on Friday, January 3, to 5:30 a.m. on Monday, January 6, and again from 11:30 p.m. on Friday, January 10, to 5:30 a.m. on Monday, January 13. Free shuttle buses will serve the affected stations during this period.
The MTA recommends the following travel alternatives:
- For 45th Street and 53rd Street, take the Coney Island-bound N or free shuttle buses.
- For 59th Street, take the N or the free shuttle buses. The MTA recommends that riders transfer between trains and buses at 36th Street for the N and R, or 59th Street for the N.
For late night travel:
- Take the N or use the nearby 2 and 4 stations for Whitehall Street-South Ferry, Court Street, and Jay Street-MetroTech.
- For Dekalb Avenue, take the Q or late D and N.
- For service between Atlantic Avenue and 36th Street, take the D or Coney Island-bound. The MTA recommends that riders transfer between trains at Atlantic Avenue (2, 3, D, N, Q), or 36th Street (D, N).
