Two new Whole Foods stores are coming to Manhattan. The supermarket chain last month announced plans to open another small-format “Whole Foods Market Daily Shop” at 301 West 50th Street in Hell’s Kitchen as part of their broader expansion across the five boroughs. The grocery chain has also signed a lease to open a new 20,000-square-foot store at 409 East 14th Street in the East Village, as the New York Post first reported.

The new outpost in Hell’s Kitchen will occupy between 7,000 and 14,000 square feet, approximately a quarter the size of the average full-scale store.

Jason Buechel, CEO of Whole Foods Market, announced the opening of the new location in Hell’s Kitchen on July 15, on the 20th anniversary of the flagship store in New York City. Buechel rang the Nasdaq opening bell in celebration.

“Today, we’re not just reflecting on our impact in NYC over the past two decades. We’re also looking forward to an exciting future of continuing growth in a city that has embraced Whole Foods Market with such enthusiasm,” Buechel said.

“It made perfect sense for us to launch a new store format right here. Whole Foods Market Daily Shop will conveniently bring our high-quality natural and organic food to even more New York City customers.”

According to the New York Post, the East Village location will be situated in the vacant space in Stuyvesant Town previously occupied by Associated Supermarkets until 2019.

In March, Whole Foods announced plans to open its first small-format grocery store at 1175 Third Avenue on the Upper East Side. The compact supermarkets are designed to provide a quick and convenient shopping experience for customers in urban areas while offering the same high-quality products synonymous with the grocery brand. The Upper East Side location is slated to open in the fall.

The Daily Shops feature a selection of fresh, seasonal produce, prepared foods, and essential grocery items. Both mini grocery stores will feature Juice & Java, a vendor offering coffee, tea, fresh-pressed juices, smoothies, sandwiches, soups, and desserts.

The two new stores will bring the grocery chain’s presence in NYC to 18 locations, employing more than 5,000 team members across the city.
